Pavel Pashkov: Wild Nature Needs a Global Refuge from Humans

It has been more than ten years since I started protecting the wild. These are years of research, expeditions, and personal encounters with ecological problems! Years of attempts to defend nature's right to life in an era of human exploitation.

Some issues we solve successfully. But they are local! We chase after governmental apparatuses and try to convince them that crimes against nature have been committed for years. That the destruction of nature is unacceptable, and the 'development' of the last untouched corners of nature will lead to catastrophic consequences for our children. It is our children and grandchildren who will have to deal with all this!

But ecology is always directly opposed to the economy! The modern economy is based on profit extraction, which is possible only under further exploitation of natural resources.

And they exploit! They rush to the last reserved territories, trying to capture as many untouched pieces of nature as possible, justifying it with 'economic necessity.'

Our world has chosen the path of capitalism. This is the form of the modern economic system where everyone thinks only about increasing profits. A 'growth economy,' to put it simply. Any talk about protecting nature is harmful to states and business because it requires them to abandon the religion of the 21st century: consumption, abundance, and the thirst for constant profit growth.

But how then to achieve change? How to influence global ecological problems?

After ten years of active research into ecological problems and fighting for nature, I have only now come to the necessary thought: problems can ONLY be solved comprehensively. No other methods are effective.

And I'm not the only one who understands this; many scientists around the world have started expressing similar thoughts in just the past two years. We, humans, underestimate the complexity of Earth's biosphere, the complexity of each local ecosystem where every species is interconnected. It's a complete analogy with our own organism.

Here's an example: the authorities are exterminating wolves, the sanitation workers of the wild. We're told, "Wolves eat other animals, they're harmful and dangerous."

BUT STOP: THESE ARE THE NATURAL BIOLOGICAL FUNCTIONS OF WOLVES.

Imagine if the authorities implemented a law that required all people to inject themselves with a preparation that kills granule cells called NK (natural killers). Yes, our body has such cells that provide innate immune protection. They recognize and neutralize pathologically changed cells in the body, keeping our immunity healthy.

In the immune system, there are many different defense mechanisms, but 'natural killers' are the fastest acting: they react instantly to pathogens and neutralize them in the body.

THUS, WOLVES IN THE WILD ARE THE SAME NK CELLS THAT HUMANS CONSCIOUSLY SUPPRESS. WE DEPRIVE NATURE OF ITS DEFENSE.

No matter what we say or how we try to convey this to the authorities, nothing changes. They don't even want to listen to us! Despite the many international scientific studies on the importance of wolves in the wild and the rapid degradation of biological systems without them.

The same applies to other problems.

In our fight for life, we usually try to solve individual problems. Protecting cedars, protecting wolves, eliminating landfills, restricting and prohibiting the logging of ancient forests, and other key tasks. And that’s all correct! These things must be done because no one but us will identify crimes against nature and demand solutions.

But now, both I and many specialists around the world are starting to understand the depth of the problems at a global systemic level. And here comes the realization that ecosystems have so degraded, that human interference in nature is so fierce, that solving problems now is possible ONLY WITH A SYSTEMIC APPROACH.

ANY OTHER FORMS OF FIGHTING ARE ALREADY IRRELEVANT!

• Just stopping the destruction of cedars won't help provide animals with the necessary food base

  
  

• Just stopping the extermination of wolves won't restore the immune system of the biosphere

  
  
• Just stopping the logging of forests won't restore the functioning of biotic climate regulation and won't stop the increasing forest fires every year

It’s the same with other problems.

Initially, when I realized the seriousness of the situation, I thought it was necessary to protect forest ecosystems. To stop the logging of ancient forests and start large-scale work to restore the damaged 'lungs of the Earth.'

But after studying a huge amount of scientific research, I realized that even this would not be enough. Forest ecosystems are closely interconnected with all other terrestrial and even marine ecosystems, intertwined with relationships that have formed over thousands of years. And all of this needs urgent protection. Very, very urgently.

Once, I wrote a separate piece: fish migrate from the ocean to freshwater rivers on land to spawn. In the coniferous taiga of the Far East, millions of fish bring the most valuable nutrients, carrying out a GLOBAL TRANSFER OF NUTRIENTS FROM MARINE ECOSYSTEMS TO TERRESTRIAL ONES. These substances have become vital for many terrestrial species of organisms, animals, and plants over thousands of years! Bears carry them further along the chain, continuing the necessary processes FROM THE OCEANS TO THE DEPTHS OF ANCIENT FORESTS.

Again, I didn't understand these things earlier, nor did scientific data exist. There were no convincing proofs! They are only appearing now with more modern research methods, technical devices, and a completely different understanding of wild nature among scientists.

And now I come to the most important.

Right now, I am studying the latest scientific research from world scientists on how to stop the global destruction of wild nature. How to influence ecological disasters, stop species extinctions, and ensure nature's protection from humans.

For now, these studies are fragmented, but I literally see a completely different worldview forming, and the more scientific data there is, the more frequently scientists come to a consolidated thought: wild nature today NEEDS REFUGES FROM HUMANS.

One more time, attention, this is very important: WILD NATURE TODAY NEEDS REFUGES FROM HUMANS!

Really, nature needs federal protection, it needs to be guarded, as the most valuable and important witness in any criminal case! With the only difference being that it needs protection not from unknown criminals but from ourselves: from humans.

REFUGES FOR WILD NATURE

I think. No, I am convinced! That we, comrades, need to completely change our approach to the fight for wild nature. After studying a large amount of scientific data and using personal PRACTICAL experience over the years, I have come to understand the necessity of creating global territories of complete ecological peace worldwide.

I am finishing work on a concept-plan for the creation of such territories! Already in September 2024, I plan to present it to the public, after which I consider it necessary to start a unified program to promote the concept not only in Russia but globally.

Supporting the concept with scientific data, the latest research, I want to propose to the Russian government (and then to all countries) a plan to unite reserved territories into global zones of complete ecological peace to protect Earth's biosphere.

This is a specific plan, a proposal that will allow us to solve almost all ecological problems at once. The main idea is to create biosphere refuges of wild nature, global points of self-restoration of biological systems. This will also help stop the sixth mass extinction of species on the planet.

If earlier we fought against local problems, now I want to make a single specific proposal for solving ecological problems the center of our activity! We will build everything else on top of our concept, updating and supplementing it with scientific data, receiving reviews from expert scientists, and promoting it worldwide: without political borders, disputes, and quarrels.

It's time for the whole world to stand up for wild nature! There is still a chance to provide our children with a future: but urgent action is needed. And addressing local problems won't be enough.
