States around the world regularly gather in various places to discuss the global destruction of wildlife. I wrote in an earlier piece about an intergovernmental project to restore global ecosystems, which ended in a resounding failure. That is, they gathered, ate gingerbread with tea, confirmed all the existing problems, and then went home.
The commitments to protect nature and responsibility evaporated as if nothing had happened.
So, apart from this “historic agreement,” climate conferences are regularly held, to which representatives from all the countries of the world also come! As a rule, the conferences are organized by the UN (United Nations), and the 30th meeting, COP30, will be held in 2025.
This time, the UN Climate Conference will be held in the city of Belém, in the state of Pará, Brazil. It will be the first UN summit held in the Amazon, which is supposedly meant to underscore the global importance of tropical forests! The Amazon jungle, ancient forests, has been rapidly destroyed in recent years, and there have been no truly large-scale positive changes—none at all.
Our Russian Taiga, boreal forests, are very far from South America. Therefore, I think it’s necessary to make a brief aside and tell readers about the Amazon rainforest.
The Amazon rainforests are the largest equatorial forest mass on Earth, serving as one of the key regulators of climate and biological diversity. These forests influence the global water cycle by regulating colossal air masses! According to recent research, it has been proven that the Amazon forests affect the climate of Tibet, which is located 16 thousand kilometers (!!) away. Think about that!
So, the forests of the Amazon create powerful “air rivers,” on which ecosystems around the world depend. For instance, the deforestation of the Amazon leads to droughts in Africa and Asia! Real scientific data.
In addition, the Amazon is a haven for 10% of all known species of flora and fauna on the planet. Starting around the mid-1970s, the rate of destruction of the Amazon forests became so catastrophic that by now approximately 20% of the ancient forests have been irretrievably lost. These are huge figures!
That’s precisely why the UN decided to hold the Climate Conference in Brazil, and soon representatives from almost all the countries of the world will go there.

In 2023, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva became President of Brazil, and he decided to take a very sharp political stance against the destruction of forests. The thing is, his predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro, before leaving office, decided to “go all out” and destroy a record amount of ancient forests.
There were scandals in the entire world press: from 2019 to 2022, ex-President Jair sanctioned the destruction of tens of thousands of square kilometers of forest!
I specifically studied data from the National Institute for Space Research of Brazil to get the exact figures for you.
In 2019, about 10,129 km² were deforested, then in 2020 — 10,851 km², in 2021 — 13,038 km², and in 2022 — 11,568 km². In total, over this period, approximately 45,586 km² of the Amazon rainforest were destroyed, which is equivalent to more than half the area of Portugal.
Can you imagine the scale? It’s just HORRIFIC! A real NIGHTMARE!

The new president, Luiz Inácio, came to power under the political aegis of forest protection. I believe it was precisely a political program for voters—“Elect me, I will protect the forest”—against the backdrop of loud scandals with the former president.
But failing to fulfill campaign promises is impossible, so the deforestation has started to decrease! In reality, though, everything has become even more tragic. Let me try to explain.
During the first year of the new president’s rule in Brazil, about 9,000 km² of rainforest were cleared. However, this is 22% less than the previous year under the other president!
In the eyes of the voters, this is a positive trend. Hurrah for the new president, who managed to reduce the scale of deforestation! In reality, however, forests continue to be destroyed at the same devastating pace, and in one year alone, almost 10 thousand square kilometers of forest have also been destroyed.
In other words, the new president just reduced part of the logging (and maybe it’s all just on paper), to gain voter approval. Then it gets even more interesting: the new government has officially committed to completely stopping illegal deforestation in the country by 2030—by which time the new president’s term will already be over.
In general, in my opinion, when studying the destruction of the Amazon forests: nothing is changing, everything is just for show, and in reality, no one is going to refuse money! The forests continue to be destroyed. And so it turns out that for ordinary people it looks like the new president reduced logging by 20%, but no one notices the fact that forests are still being destroyed at roughly 10 thousand square kilometers a year.

Now let’s return to the UN Conference COP30, which will be held in 2025. Essentially, the summit is seen by the authorities as an opportunity to showcase to the whole world their successes and plans for forest restoration!
Overall, I believe it is very difficult to assess the scale of logging and confirm the real numbers because in 2024 there were abnormal forest fires in Brazil that destroyed over 30 million hectares of vegetation! How many were set intentionally so that “sanitary logging” could then be conducted? No one will say. And what a “coincidence” that this happened before the UN Conference, right? Where pretty figures about reduced logging are needed.
So!
Right now there is active preparation for the international summit. Apart from “creating pretty reports,” large-scale infrastructure is being built. The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) has allocated about 1 BILLION DOLLARS for projects to prepare the city to welcome international guests.
They are completely rebuilding the old airfield, modernizing the river port, creating tourist facilities! The authorities say all this will later become a positive legacy for the city, which has more than 1.3 million residents.
In 2024, the UN climate summit was held in Baku, where the governor of the state of Pará gave a presentation on the epic work being done to prepare the city to welcome honored guests.
I think readers now understand my train of thought: couldn’t that 1 billion dollars be spent on FOREST PROTECTION and restoration instead of transforming the city for TWO WEEKS of the UN Conference?
To say: “We decided to host you modestly, and publicly allocate a billion dollars to protect nature! And we propose the UN do the same in the future, instead of wasting huge amounts of money annually on hosting a gathering of nations. Let’s demonstrably do something TRULY FOR NATURE instead of cheap posturing for the camera.”
But let’s now get to the point.
Among the range of infrastructure projects to prepare for the climate Conference is… large-scale deforestation for a new highway in the state of Pará, to welcome summit participants.

Major international media examined satellite images and identified new clearings that cut through the Amazon forests. They have already documented a clearing at least 13 kilometers long! The swath of cleared forest coincides with the route of a highway intended to ease traffic in honor of COP30.
The British publication BBC also showed drone footage demonstrating how a wide dirt strip cuts through what used to be ancient Amazon forests. Moreover, these are protected nature reserves! According to the BBC, we’re talking about tens of thousands of acres of Amazon forest.
The situation has been analyzed by environmentalists who confirmed that along with forest clearing, the swampy areas are being drained—satellite images show machinery filling in the wetlands to build up the road embankment. In addition, satellites detected the storage of many felled tree trunks along the corridor, indicating a significant volume of timber removal! This is the destruction of protected forests.

I obtained all the data available on this situation; my team studied the information starting from 2022. We found evidence that the authorities definitely knew about plans to clear the forests for the summit, and inspections were carried out personally by the federal environmental agency, which inspected the construction site. But apparently, they tried hard to hide it!
Moreover, we studied satellite data from past years, where forests were cleared for road construction in exactly the same way. Every time they said: “Don’t worry, we’ll just carefully lay the road, and that’s it.” But in reality, it turned out that 94.9% of all deforestation in the Amazon occurred within 5 km of roads or rivers!
That is, they build the road first, and then destroy all the forests around it completely.
A total of about 50,000 people are planning to come to Brazil for the international UN climate summit.
So, for the sake of this “public front” by the UN, protected forests are being destroyed, the same forests that (in theory) the summit is meant to save. Just a huge public performance that’s being carried out for the 30th time.
I’m especially troubled by the comments of local residents; it’s heartbreaking for them! And who usually hears people, anyway?
Local resident Cláudio Verequete, who lives about 200 meters from the new highway, said: “Everything [in the forest] was destroyed. Our crops were already cut down. We no longer have the income to feed our family.” He’s referring to palm trees whose fruits were a source of income for his family—these groves were destroyed to build the road.

Verequete’s neighbors said that even after the summit, they will not be able to use the new road—the authorities are fencing it off for heavy truck traffic that will transport natural resources. The destruction of the forest will continue, and the living flesh of the Amazon—ancient trees—will be carried away as dry timber along this same highway.
Cláudio Verequete told reporters: “The benefit will be for the trucks. If someone gets sick and needs to go to Belém, they won’t be able to use this road.”
Veterinarian Dr. Sílvia Sardinha, who is a wildlife specialist, also commented on the road construction. Her comments were published by the BBC:
“The new road will reduce the territory where animals can live and reproduce. From the moment of deforestation, there is a loss: terrestrial animals will no longer be able to cross [this zone], which endangers biodiversity.”
She also noted that many species are already dying or losing their habitat, and it is becoming impossible to rehabilitate them.
“These decisions are discussed between businessmen and the authorities, but those who live in the Amazon are ignored,” Sílvia stressed.
Many foresters, biologists, and scientists have also criticized the authorities’ actions. They say the road divides two protected areas, isolating them from each other! This disrupts all biological processes, animal migration, and there are already data on changes in the hydrological regime, which will inevitably lead to future flooding and the destruction of all local ecosystems.

Do you know what the Brazilian government said after the scandals? The same painfully familiar excuses we hear all the time everywhere. They said that the road construction is not within the jurisdiction of the federal government.
That’s all.
That’s the situation in Brazil!
I’ve prepared this extensive and detailed piece for you to show the scale of fictional wildlife protection worldwide. That the global destruction of ecosystems continues everywhere, across the planet, and it’s all blatant lies!
Moreover, every country does the same thing, as if copying each other’s actions and following “one manual.” The destruction of nature is justified in every possible way, while economic, short-term interests take precedence over the future of our children!
A pretty wrapper called the “UN Climate Summit,” in which more than 190 countries, international organizations, businesses, and activists will participate.
50,000 people will come to the heart of the Amazon to have tea and gingerbread, and when not even crumbs are left, they’ll go home. Just another entertainment and another reason to “launder” huge sums of money under the guise of “historic meetings to save the planet.”
